Post The race to 1,000 posts

We have at least two posters closing in on the 1,000-post milestone.

Russell A. Morris: 898 posts

Rich Douglas: 989 posts

(Yes, I realize they aren’t merely posting for the sake of numbers. However, since 9/11/01, I have found myself unable to muster any substantial thoughts with regard to DL. Keeping score will have to do until my heart mends... My apologies to any posters that I may have overlooked.)

Mark

Mark,

Since Rich is only 11 posts from this milestone, and I lack 102, I humbly concede to Rich. I will not challenge the results by asking for a manual recount, nor will I ask the Supreme Court to make the final decision.
The task could require an extended period of time, and the work of DL must move forward. So I call for a display of bi-partisan unity!

Seriously, it is a pleasure to be part of DegreeInfo. I would like to thank all the administrators/moderators, and all posters who have helped produce a substantive DL forum.

I'm a tad disappointed in any attention given to this number. But when it was first brought up, I checked with another forum on which I also post. I find I have nearly 400 posts there, too. I'm not trying to put up a large number of posts; it's just working out that way.

Rich Douglas (adding another one; sorry!)

Oh, good. Then my offer to serve on the Union Institute doctoral committee of the first person to reach 1,000 posts seems safe for Rich.

I note we're also approaching 1,000 registered users -- or do those numbers reflect and include those bozos who register anywhere from 2 to 50 times, in order to promote their bad schools or otherwise make trouble until they are removed. In other words, O moderators, does a multiple registrant who is subsequently banished show up as zero, one, or many on the running total of registrants?

Give 'em heck, Russell. (I might have used another word, but you are a man of the cloth and this is Sunday! ) Seriously, I apologize for singling the two of you out. As I'm about to explain to Rich below, I have a head for insignificant details.

Mark (just a hopin' to crack 100 before I expire...)

Rich, it was not my intent to make you or Russell feel self-conscious. As a card-carrying scientist, I tend to notice minutiae, no matter how irrelevant. (If'n I could train my mind to notice important minutiae, I'd be much better off financially...) I also admire the commitment that you and Russell both have toward this forum. While I frequently, lurk, I rarely post. I apologize for any offense taken, for none was intended...

That should read "frequently lurk". Darn furshlugginer lack of editing capability!

I'm curious...is this information generally available through some site function I'm too dense to recognize, or is the number of posters only available to you administrative folks?

Mark

Nope, it's definitely available to all. It's at the top of the summary screen (upper right hand corner) which is right after the degreeinfo.com screen.

None taken. Certainly think nothing of it. I just don't want it to seem like it is important to me. It is not.

Sigh. I hear a cat being let out of the bag. Yes, it is true. The prodigal son is returning home. He just didn't realize it was in Cincinnati.

Okay, let's get past the 1000-mark. Discuss amongst yourselves:

MIGS is better than H-W.

Should gays be allowed in the space program? As Chaplains?

PhD in 4 weeks: tenure track?

TUI's new name: Union The Institute

MSU's new president: Jessy "The Body" Ventura

Should the North Central Assn. "take over" Canadian universities?

Should French become the mandatory academic language of the U.S.?

Is John Bear a fictitious character created by Chip?

Should degreeinfo.com become an Internet reality show where members can vote others out and the last standing gets a Ph.D.? (I'll just leave now; no need to wait for the embarrassing first vote.)

Rich,

Do we take this to mean that you are returning to Union to complete your Ph.D.?

Mark,

No apology necessary! Like Rich, I have no fascination with accumulating numerous posts---just a keen interest in DL.

Keep lurking & posting!

I hope so, Rich. As I have stated before, I think your subject matter is too important to DL to allow it to fall by the wayside.

All the best in your pursuit!
