Catching up on my Chronicles of Higher Education (or should it be "Chronicle of Higher Educations"), I note, June 22, the flap going on at Sinte Gleska U in South Dakota, mentioned by Kristin in another context entirely.
It seems that Chairman of the Regents, John Spotted Tail is in a major fight with Dean Fred Leader Charge, over the possible ouster of the president. One problem is the president fired the popular Leland Little Dog. Leader Charge likens the situation to the firing of another Native American school president, Janine Pease Pretty-on-Top, last winter. Maybe I should have changed the middle name as well. Running. Slouching. Grumbling. Whatever. John Bear |

Let's see. John Running Bear? Nope. Sounds liked you've turned tail. John Slouching Bear? That's not it either. Makes it sound like you've thrown in the towel. John Grumbling Bear? Hmmmmm. Slightly menacing with just a hint of bite. I think I might tend to lean towards John Peripatetic Bear, though, or John Gastronomic Bear. Gee, I didn't even know you'd converted. {g}

I knew Sinte Gleska sounded familiar.
As to names -- I remember how disappointed I was when I found that my name just meant "Christian" and my sister Ann got to be "gracious." I did, however, think that my sister Barbara was indeed a barbarian.

My first name means "rock," and my last name means "deaf." Basically I'm "Stone Deaf." Miracle ear, here I come, slouching and grumbling all the way. And how do you get those little batteries in there?
